Serious Eye Infection Associated with Soft Contact Lens Solution

What you need to know to prevent eye pain or vision loss

Lehigh Valley, Pa. (June 5, 2007) – If you wear soft contact lenses and are experiencing problems with your eyes, stop using your current lenses immediately. “The Center for Disease Control has identified an outbreak of a serious, but rare, eye infection called Acanthamoeba keratitis, or AK,” says Terry Burger, Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network director of infection control. • Throw away the remaining solution, including unopened bottles
• Discard your current lenses and storage container
